Julie Ann Johnson Davis

1950-2023

Julie Ann Johnson Davis passed away on March 2, 2023. She passed peacefully in her home in St. George UT with her loving husband and two sons by her side. Julie has been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints her entire life. She was a woman of faith, lived righteously, and taught her children by word and example. She had a never-failing love of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. She loved His gospel and walked the covenant path. She spent her life in loyal devotion to God and family. Julie was born April 13, 1950 in Salt Lake City to Delbert C. (Deb) Johnson and Carolyn Dalton Johnson. She grew up on the Avenues of Salt Lake in the same house her parents had for 60+ years. She is the 5th child of six, and the 3rd daughter of four. In elementary school she was part of a program of early-learning Russian language and she continued to study Russian through college. In high school, she was involved in many clubs, committees and singing groups, she also was voted as the Prom Princess. She graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City in 1968 with honors. She accepted a scholarship in Russian language from Brigham Young University. For her first 3 years at BYU, Julie was actively involved with Angel Flight, a service organization. She was the first of her siblings to attend the “Y”. As a freshman attending BYU, she met her future husband, Steven R. Davis, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple December 15, 1971. She graduated in the summer of 1972 with a B. A. in Elementary Education. After Steven received his B.S. and MBA from BYU in 1976, they relocated to Northern California in the Bay Area with three sons born in Utah and a a few years later two additional sons were born in California. In her 73 years of life and 51 years of marriage, Julie lived in 4 states and 12 cities. In all these places from high school to retirement, she had developed many wonderful relationships with her friends and she wishes to express gratitude to all of them for their friendship, support and love. Even though contact was minimal after each move, these friends’ kindness and generosity will always be remembered and cherished. Julie also had a deep loving bond with her younger sister, Chari. Julie always knew that her main calling in life was to be an exemplary wife and mother. She loved being mom and grandma to her 5 sons, 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. Some of her greatest joys were when she watched her sons and grandchildren playing sports, cheering, singing and music recitals. Julie counts as one of her greatest blessings that her 5 sons were worthy to be called and served honorable full-time missions for the Church in the 3 Americas; North, Central and South. She was so entertained and happy when her grandchildren got together and just “hung-out” as cousins. In her life travels she had many opportunities to serve the ward members. She served twice as ward Relief Society president, twice as Primary president, also Young Women president and a councilor in the Los Angeles Stake Relief Society. She was a great leader and organizer and she truly cared for the well-being of others. She always would say, “I have loved all my callings, but I really enjoyed teaching in Relief Society”. In her last ten years she struggled with many health issues that reduced the time she could spend with others. Prior to that she was a very active and talented woman with flower gardening, piano playing, arts and crafts, baking cakes and reading. She enjoyed traveling, visiting the big cities of the USA and Europe as well as Church historic sites. She loved our trips to Lake Tahoe. She especially enjoyed short car drives to the mountains and the ocean to marvel in the beauty of the Lord’s creations. For her 50th wedding anniversary and her last adventure, she traveled on her first cruise with husband, sons and their wives. She is survived by her husband Steven R. and her five sons Steven W. (Sarah), Scott J. (Lori), Anthony T. (Suzanne), Daniel G. (Aseel). Michael R. (Shannon), 20 grandchildren and 1 great-grandson. She is also survived by sister Charlene Johnson Davis and sister-in-law Kathy Dahn Johnson. Funeral services will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-days Saints building located at 828 West 1600 North in Orem, UT on March 16, 2023 at 11:00 am with viewing at 9:30 am to 10:45 am followed by the family prayer.
