Winston D. Burns 

1950 ~2022 


- Winston Dempsey Burns – Beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away unexpectedly at his home in South Jordan, Utah, on Saturday, March 5, 2022, at the age of 72. He was born January 4, 1950, in Lubbock, Texas to Kathryn Burns and William Karvel and then adopted by his uncle and aunt, William D. and Mary Sue Vineyard Burns. 

He moved with his family several times back and forth between Texas and Salt Lake City, finally settling in Salt Lake City. He graduated from East High School in 1968, then served in the Pacific Northwest Mission; having very fond memories of that time. He married Susan Coon on December 13, 1974, and they were blessed with two sons and then later divorced. He then married Effie Mae Dennett on October 24, 1981, in the Salt Lake Temple, and they were blessed with three daughters. 

He worked for many years with the U.S. Postal Service and after leaving there, he obtained his real estate license. He later went to work for West Valley City and obtained his electrician's license. He retired from West Valley City in 2015. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and had a strong testimony of the gospel and the Plan of Salvation. 

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Effie; sons Jason W. (Kerry) Burns of Las Vegas, Nevada and Bradley J. (Maria) Burns of Italy; daughters Stacy R. (Christopher) Johnson, Kimberly A. (Bret) Dunyon, and Lindsey N. Burns (Levi Adair). He was also blessed with nine grandchildren: Addison and Greyson Burns (Las Vegas, Nevada), Ambra Burns (Italy), Baylie, Kohyn, and Kaydinse Johnson; and Shaylee, Brooklynn, and Kenadee Dunyon, all of Salt Lake City. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph W. (Carol) Burns; and a sister, Susan (Michael) Perkins. 

The family wishes to thank the many friends and family that have been so loving and supportive over the years. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 11, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. at the LDS Church located at 9897 South Dunsinane Drive (3845 W), South Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held at the church prior to the service from 10:00 until 11:45 am. Interment will be at the Elysian Gardens Cemetery (1075 E. 4580 South) in Millcreek, Utah, under the direction of Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary.
